The Palinfrasca Sofa, with its immediately recognizable iconic shape, pays tribute to the 1994 work by Luca Meda from which it takes its inspiration, interpreting the essence of teak not only in an unprecedented and contemporary way, but also in the most exhaustive representation of Molteni&C’s savoir-faire and research into materials: a knowledge gained in the almost ninety years of the life of the company, founded in 1934.
The Landmark Collection presents a modular system in solid teak, characterized by curved, soft, angular lines that give an intense feeling of comfort. The system is composed of a multiplicity of elements that can be placed side by side to create configurations that are always different, can be moved as desired, and can be reassembled.
The seats are rich in refined cabinet-making details, such as the profile cut into the connection between the end pillar of the structure and the back of the sofa, which serves as a convenient shelf for small objects. The solid wood pillar itself shows a soft, rounded profile and a double curvature in the corners that give the material a ‘soft’ image.
The gentle curves of the supportive frame, together with the silky smoothness of the wood, conjure up a general image of softness.
Another distinctive element of the Landmark Collection is the “weaving” of the thin backrest band, which recalls the weaves in natural materials of the Mediterranean tradition. There is a warp and weft motif on painted metal rods in a burnished color, which, in a macro-scale design, lends an original and contemporary aesthetic. The backrest weave is available in teak or olive green EVA polyurethane, a pliable yet non-deformable plastic material with an appearance reminiscent of leather and salt- or weather-resistant characteristics suitable for outdoor furniture.
